Wooden backgrounds are being used since ever in the designing world. However, this trend is the most popular thing in 2012. It looks simple, neat and attractive. The best thing about minimal websites is that they are very pleasing to the eye. Just because it is a trend does not mean everyone should start following it blindly. Go minimal only if it is a requirement of your website.
